One of the things I most anticipated when I looked forward to making the leap into self-employment was the ability to take business trips on a completely tax-deductible basis. When I saw “WordCamp Maui” appear on the list of upcoming Wordcamps for 2015, it was a no-brainer; I immediately applied to be a sponsor and a speaker, eager to secure my place.
Like most self-taught designer/developer types, the majority of my learning happens in the twilight hours of the morning scanning Stack Overflow posts. Consequently, there’s a fantastic excitement involved in spending a weekend with other people who have spent similar countless hours discovering and experimenting with the same things.
After two enjoyable days at WordCamp, I set out to explore the mystical, magical island of Maui (using my wonderful AirBNB provided by David and Suzy as a homebase).
My explorations included:
- The west coast, including the unbelievable drive from Kihei up to Kapalua
- A dinner at Cafe O’Lei followed by an evening of gazing at the Kihei sunset
- A trip to Paia and an outstanding fish lunch at Mama’s Fish House
- The Iao Valley
- Making the trek to the summit of Haleakala
Enjoy the photos!
